Water and Enviromental Sanitation Project (WES)
COSI is technical partner and Plan is financial partner in this joint programme to improve the quality of life of children, their families and communities by working towards Sri Lankan Government's WES Sector development goals.
A community-based approach, managed by 6 operational partner organisations, is being used to deliver sustainable improvements on a wide scale. Some of Sri Lanka's poorest communities have been targetted, including some of the Government tea plantation estates where people are especially disadvantaged.
The project is based around 5 community action plans - community strengthening, water supply, sanitation, hygiene education and environmental improvement - a package of strategies which will help people achieve better health and a better quality of life.
The first phase of WES, operating in 36 of Sri Lanka's GN Divisions, is due to complete in July 2006 by which time it is hoped that the second phase will be well underway.
